Virtual Care Services

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced all of us to make basic changes to our daily routines and normal activities. If you are receiving physical therapy or are in need of it, it is critical to try to stay physically active and continue to work toward your treatment goals. One way to accomplish this in the current environment is through telemedicine physical therapy services.

Telemedicine uses internet-capable devices and secure video conferencing platforms to help patients receive remote care. Since so much of physical therapy involves instruction, feedback and personal participation, this is one form of treatment that can be accomplished exceptionally well with virtual technology.

Peak Performance Sports and Physical Therapy is committed to the health and safety of our patients during these uncertain times. That is why we are delivering virtual physical therapy sessions to our patients in situations where in-clinic appointments are not possible. To help you gain an understanding of what virtual physical therapy is, how it works and how to get started, please take some time to review the following information.

Our team is always here to help, and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Virtual physical therapy basics

If you’ve heard of virtual physical therapy, you may have also heard it referred to as remote physical therapy. Whatever term you’ve heard, the basics are fairly simple, and if you’ve ever teleconferenced with family, friends or co-workers over platforms like Skype or FaceTime, just think of doing this with your physical therapist and that’s the fundamental idea of virtual physical therapy. With an internet connection and a compatible device, you can have a one-on-one session with a licensed and experienced physical therapist. Physical therapy is such a great application for this technology because so much of what you do in the clinic can be accomplished virtually.

Peak Performance uses a secure browser-based platform for our virtual physical therapy sessions. This platform was created with the needs of therapists and physical therapy patients at the forefront. With a user-friendly layout and easy-to-understand experience, our platform allows you to focus on your treatment as if you were right in the same room.

While there are some treatments that can’t be performed virtually, including any hands-on treatments, teletherapy is ideal for active therapeutic exercise and movement or postural training that can benefit from real-time feedback from your therapist.

Virtual physical therapy is an option for both existing and new patients and can be performed in a variety of situations, such as:

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Symptom management for chronic conditions
  • Treatment for sports-related or automotive injuries

Getting started with virtual physical therapy

Preparing for your virtual physical therapy appointment is remarkably similar to an in-office visit. Bring yourself, a positive attitude and loose-fitting clothing to move around in. To connect with your therapist, you’ll simply need an internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or laptop or desktop computer with a functioning webcam and microphone.

Our platform works with major internet browsers. Please make sure your internet browser is up to date.

Prior to your first session, you should also follow these steps to prepare:

  • Watch out for appointment confirmations and reminders in your email.
  • Double-check your internet connection.
  • Make sure your camera and microphone are on and enabled in your browser.
  • Make sure you can go hands-free with your hardware. For phones and tablets, some type of stand will be required.
  • Create a dedicated space in your home that is well lit and free of obstacles.
