The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly become a global health emergency that is changing the way we carry out basic activities. Many health care providers, including Peak Performance, are responding to the increased call for social distancing by offering telemedicine services in addition to in-office appointments.
Virtual physical therapy, or remote physical therapy, is a relatively new approach to physical therapy that uses video conferencing to put you directly in touch with your therapist in real time.
We’re sure you have questions; that’s why we’re sharing the following frequently asked questions (FAQs). Please feel free to reach out to our team at any time for more information or if you have any additional questions.
How is Peak Performance responding to the COVID-19 pandemic?
Peak Performance Sports and Physical Therapy has been closely following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to modify our procedures and provide safeguards in response to the coronavirus outbreak and resulting COVID-19 pandemic. This situation continues to evolve, so we will be posting updates on our response.
Virtual physical therapy is an effective means of treatment as it limits exposure to the virus, especially for immunocompromised or older patients.
Is Peak Performance scheduling in-person appointments at this time?
We are scheduling in-person appointments on an as-needed basis. In some cases, we have begun to schedule sessions two or more weeks out. You can call our clinics to learn more.
Can I have virtual physical therapy sessions with my regular therapist?
Peak Performance is currently operating under special staffing requirements, so you might be scheduled with someone different than your regular therapist. However, you can be confident that our entire team is experienced, qualified and passionate about patient-centered care.
What should I do if I need to cancel my appointment?
Please get in touch with us. Your health and safety is more important to us than anything, and we will make every effort to accommodate. We also may be able to reschedule your appointment as a virtual physical therapy session.
What is virtual physical therapy?
Virtual physical therapy uses an internet connection and a compatible device to connect you by video with a professional physical therapist. With a few differences, you can expect the same level of care as you would from an in-office session.
How much does virtual physical therapy cost?
Virtual physical therapy care is covered by most major insurances in the same way as an in-person visit. Our team also accepts credit and debit as well as Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) payments for Medicare, Medicaid and self-pay patients.
What do I need for a virtual session?
Peak Performance Sports and Physical Therapy uses a secure web browser-based platform, so there’s no need to set up any additional software. Here’s what you need:
- A working internet connection
- An internet-connected tablet, smartphone, or laptop or desktop computer that has a webcam and microphone
- A compatible internet browser
- Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that you can move around in
- An open and well-lit space to perform instructed exercises and movements
